Piece of thought about PSM

It was such a surprise when I read that we have to do some apply procedure if we want to write our thesis in English Language. And, there's certain requirement for your English subject result to get approval.

There are a few points that I really can't get it through in my mind:

1. Our institute is always trying its best to be well known International University isn't it? If that's the case, our thesis, which is the outcome of showing what we've learnt/how capable we are should be written in International Language by default.

2. If someone's English result isn't good, i think it's better for him/her to complete his/her whole book of thesis in English. Else, when this person is going to learn English? Imagine a computer science student graduate from Premier University of Technology in Malaysia don't understand the meaning of 'Networking' instead of always saying 'Rangkaian'.

3. It's time to change. Imagine if one day, our student did some great achievement, and a European decided to pay a visit to our library, and he actually couldn't understand the content in the Top 5 project thesis. In my opinion, that's going to be an awkward situation.

Think about it.

  1. Oh well, u see, even the government is changing both maths and science to malay version yet again!! Dr M was sick of it, voluminous of parents were complaining about it and still, that's the bottom line.. what can we do except just to follow the predefined procedures? Oh well, anyway, no worries, we'll gonna use english by the end of the day! cheers! muahahaha...

  2. Aha! A Discussion entails! Well Unfortunately, the rule is needed because:
    1. some students aren't up to writing an academic report in English. Hence, as PSM is already a burden for them, an added pressure of writing in English could prove 'fatal' (notice the quotes)
    2. For some student without the necessary 'requirements'; the supervisor usually ends up the proof reader, editor, co-writer. Which shouldn't be the case. I for one, do not wish to do this. To make things worse, some do hand in reports at the very last minute, making us lecturers bear the brunt of it (i.e. skip lunch hour, lose sleep, bring into meetings, in short disrupting our work and rest). Why do this you ask? Our name is in there, and one should never associate mediocrity with ones name....right?

  4. Well, my name will be in your thesis. I dont want my name attached to a "bolehlah" thesis.
